Universal Transitional Kindergarten for 4 year olds could be the end to parental choice in California

Recommendations to the proposed legislation SB 837

This is what SCTRC members are saying:

1. Continue to invest in existing child care systems that provide quality care and education

2. Increase funding and support for existing programs

3. Build on and strengthen our existing EESD (formerly CDD) programs. We are the experts in 4 year olds. We have the resources for 4 year olds (the Foundations, Frameworks, Assessment Tools). We ensure that 4 year old learn in developmentally appropriate environments with qualified staff. This bill is the heart of what we do and have been doing, and it will eliminate our California
State Preschool funding.

Does the DRDP-R really make a difference in the child's development?

08/02/2013 - 02:30

The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP-R) is a State of California mandated assessment system for children enrolled in early education programs funded by the California Department of Education. Education Code in It is the first attempt for the State of California to obtain data on how California’s children and families are progressing.

California Child Care Centers Close due to Budget Delay

09/28/2010 - 00:14

California pre-schools and child care centers WILL close their doors September 30, 2010, if the State budget is not enacted. Centers are currently notifying families of the closures. Hoover Intergenerational Care began providing child care in 1977, currently serving 70 families.
Preschool teachers/staff will be laid off. Thousands of children are in jeopardy of losing the safety net of quality care in safe environments.
If child care programs are able to remain open after September, the hours of operation may be reduced and some classrooms within the school will go dark. It will be a difficult task to locate families for enrollment as well as replace staff WHEN funds are available from the State.

California State Budget Delay Hurts Children and Families

07/09/2010 - 11:00
10/09/2010 - 11:00

Child Care Center operators and Family Child Care Home Business suffer in silence without funding ,due to the California State Budget delay. How many child care centers and family child care homes have already closed? How Many teachers have received lay-off notices. How many parents have lost or will lose their jobs due to the lack of child care? What is the morale like at the child care center where you work?

Do you know the elected officials that represent your community? Do they know how the delay in the passage of the California State Budget affects you? (losing your child care/your job)

Tell your story......
